Town centre events
Streets Alive organises and promotes culturally based traffic-free events in town and city centres.
Our approach is to attract a wide range of the public with enjoyable and relevant activities and then engage them in local and wider issues.
The events create feelings about the town
in the context of the street (rather than being a commercial event).
Our model has worked successfully in Bristol in annual events since 2001, with an average of 5000 people attending.
The events have been in 7 streets in Bristol's old city centre which are closed to traffic for a day, in partnership with Bristol City Council.
The events have created a vibrant culture for that part of town and has resulted in it being used regularly for other events with traffic excluded. The events have been one of the largest In Town Without My Car Day events in the UK.
See our PHOTO GALLERY of how the streets are transformed with arts, dance, performance, children's activities and for travel promotions.
Streets Alive offers services to councils and communities to develop events to meet long term aims.
In 2007 we advised 15 London boroughs on developing ideas for travel promotions during car free days, on behalf of Transport for London.

Our NightSafe event held with the police on a Saturday night showed how much safer the street was without traffic.
This resulted in the area being made traffic-free every weekend night.

We held a special VE day event with the local BBC involving all age groups
